Mr. Nikos Boulaxis, president of the Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE), announced the liberalization of the electricity market on a nationwide scale as of 1/1/2018 in a speech at the 82nd Thessaloniki International Fair. From the beginning of the New Year, all households and businesses in the Non-Interconnected Islands Grid will have the option of choosing their Supplier, as is already the case in Crete and Rhodes. Mr. Boulaxis pointed out in his speech that the cost of interconnection of almost all islands is estimated to be no more than EUR 3-3.5 billion, which corresponds to the cost of Services of General Interest (SGIs) for which all households and businesses in the country have paid, only in the last five years.
