Liberalization of the retail electricity market on the non-interconnected island of Crete

After several postponements in July 2016, the retail market was opened at a non-interconnected point of Greek territory.

As a first step, the island of Crete is the first point where consumers can choose an electricity supplier. A new and big market is being opened up to private suppliers (producers and traders), thus making competition in Crete a weapon for lowering electricity prices on the island.
